Forbes Hobbies in Cambridge Ontario will be hosting a 24 hour EDH Event to raise food for needy families in our area. The event will take place on April 13th- 14th starting at 10 am.

Let me tell you a bit about what we are planning. This is going to be awesome.

1st. The entry fee is going to be 5 items of non-perishable food. So, Mac n' Cheese, Ramen, Tins of beans, whatever, you just need 5.

2nd. There will be a point system to see who our winner is, and each hour there will be a new winner, but the points will not be like any point system you have seen before! The requirements for scoring points will change on an hourly basis so that every player will get a chance to win.

3rd. Each hour, the person with the highest points for that hour will spin the WHEEL OF FORTUNE, on that wheel we will have prizes, and Emblems. Emblems will be like planeswalker Emblems, and will be take with you into the next hour of gaming. Emblems can be anything from "Start the game with 60 life" to "All of your creatures get +1/+1" but there can be evil emblems too. So be careful!

4th. "Cheating for Charity" We will be allowing cheating for charity. If you would like to draw an extra card, you may pay 1 item of food per card. if you want an extra mana in your pool, you can pay. Here is a list of possible cheats:

1 card = 1 item.
1 Mana = 1 item.
1 Life = 1 item.

Your opponents can try to stop you from cheating by out bidding you. for example if i bid 1 can of soup to draw a card, you can bid 2 cans to stop me.

5th. Random draws. Every two hours we will be drawing tickets for random prizes. Tickets can be purchased with food items. 1 ticket for 1 item.

I really hope that we get a good turn out, a similar event was hosted for Warmachine players at Forbes, and they raised over 800 pounds of food. I am pretty sure we can beat those guys.
If your in the area, please check it out.

Agreed. I especially love the "cheating for charity" concept.

+Infinity for this

I'm awestruck by how simple and yet positive this is. I'm gonna suggest this to my local store, please keep us in the loop of how this goes and what kind of point system you end up using. :)

Just wanted to update a little bit:

I received news from my partner on this project, he has finished all of the emblems players can win each hour.

Let give you a brief overview of the emblems:
Each hour we change the points structure to be something totally different( ie. points for kills, points for achievements, points for total number of permanents you have controlled throughout the hour) then you will spin the Wheel of fortune. Each slot on the wheel contains one prize and one emblem. Emblems will be carried forward with you for the next hour and are treated like planeswalker emblems.

Here are a few Emblems you can look forward to winning.

1.Before the game begins, take one extra turn.
2.you go first each game
3 Skip your first turn each game
4.Whenever a creature you control leaves the battlefield, you lose one life.

As you can see, the emblems are both good, and bad. Its up to the wheel of fortunes to decide which you get.

Again, i really hope some of you who might be in the area can make it out to this event. It would be awesome to meet other EDH players from all around.

I would be all over this if I were in the area. Alas, I cannot be.

However, I've pointed this thread out to one of my local card shops, and one of the owners really liked the idea. I'm hoping to convince them to go all out for it.

I'd also like to know how it went, especially your thoughts on the Cheating for Charity rule. It's probably one of the dopest rules I've ever seen in any game, and I want to know if people enjoyed it and if any opponents were frustrated by it.
