Banking on the Iconic nature of the set was always going to lead to disappointment.

But I'm still liking it.

"Iconic" means something significantly different to people who started playing in Mirage vs. people who started playing in Urza Block vs. people who started playing in Ravnica 1. And there's fifteen years of people after that. Damn.

That said, if nothing else besides new art on Kamigawa Dragons and Austere Command (not that it would replace the Masterpiece one, but still) and an outside shot at Mana Drain, I'll likely mise a pack or six, and scan for singles. Cheaper Archangel of Thunes sound pretty nice.

Big rules errata on how Magus of the Moon deals with non-basics that enter with markers or counters

Quote:
*If a nonbasic land has an ability that applies "as [this land] enters the battlefield" or that causes it to enter the battlefield tapped or with counters, the land will lose that ability before it applies. This is a change from previous rules.
*If a nonbasic land has an ability that triggers "when" it enters the battlefield, it will lose that ability before it triggers

So a Vivid land wont have the counters it usually come in with, nor will Dark Depths.

So you can play Dark Depths with Magus of the Moon in play, sacrifice the Magus, and get your 20/20 right away?

Seems to be the case.

The Dark Depths shenanigans are becoming more and more interesting. Incoming new post to demand that Lands are legalized as Generals for EDH! (this is a joke, people).

Personally, I'm glad they reprinted Ancestral Vision, but that's about it.
The new illustrations for the Kamigawa dragons are nice, but I like the old ones as much.
Hopefully, other people are interested enough to buy/draft it. I'm a bit worried that the price point feels less and less justifiable given the abundance of the "Masters" products. :?

Yeah, this is actually a thing in Legacy now, they play Blood Moon and Depths then Chaos Warp the Blood Moon back and get a 20/20. So, so crazy.

Overall I like the set. I obviously would have preferred if Sengir and Shivan were in there too, but there are some needed reprints and a few bomb chase rares as well. Nice stocking stuff either way.
