Yeah that's a horrible answer. These would see zero competitive play outside EDH so I'm at a loss.to defend his answer. I doubt they would even make waves in EDH.
They would cerrtainly be the (allied) best dual lands avalible to most players. It would certainly spike the value of the packs, taking them out of drafters hands.

I don't think the blog was says they were 'too powerful', just thatt the sub types add power. I don't think anyone with experieennce wouldd think they were too powerful for EDH.

Another factor is they wouldn't want to lead with the best possible version of those lands. They would want to have room to grow upwards, or to change things sideways without people's response being "these are just worse versions of the battlebond dual lands". If they start at the maximum they set themselves up for failure in that they'll have more trouble generating excitement over the land base next time.

Return of the Partner mechanic with a restriction... Partner with...

They can only be partners with each other.

And they will always be in the same pack together. So that's nice.

I like this particular pair. I hope there are some generic Partners too.

Based on this quote from the article, there probably wont't be:

Only seven cards spoiled and already so many missed opportunities.

Is it a miss when you don't even shoot at the target?

Pir and Toothy seem, what's the word....lackluster (from an EDH viewpoint). Not bad. Not exciting. People will try to break them (because GU is so hard to break...) but not because they are a great team or inspiring to have in the command zone. It's just an obvious route for a fairly generic "counters matter.dek"

What, if anything, changes if playing 2HG EDH? Well, one can use the pair in the command zone, and the teammate has them in the 99; and that might be interesting (is legend rule per team?) if possible.

Personally, I always preferred Emperor over 2/3HG for team play, so it's hard to get excited for Battlebond (and I can only hope there will be cards worth being excited over, even if the set falls flat over all).

So Wizards figured out a way to print booster packs for Commander.

So many interesting cards already, plus partner Planeswalker commanders.

The reason I doubt this, is because the battlebond lands don't have dual-typing. This is honestly super disappointing- the "Battle/Tango Lands" and "Bicycle/Cycling Dual Lands" have been a huge blessing to 2c EDH decks- and it's almost infuriating that the enemy color variants have been put off in similar fashion to Oddysey Filters and Slow Fetches. These are all far safer for any environment than outright reprinting Shadowmoor filters or Shocklands (but Zendikar fetchlands have so many demand problems that not planting them into a real set soon is going to be like the Pre-Khans Polluted Delta crisis all over again.)

Yeah, Doub Seas ain't the only chase mythic!

Land Tax reprint with judge promo art

ARENA RECTOR 3W
Creature - Crusty Old Bitch (from memory may be off)
When ~ dies, you may exile it. If you do, search your library for a PLANESWALKER and put it onto the battlefield, then shuffle your library.
1/2

Literally just Academy Rector for 'walkers. HO LEE SHIT. Gonna need 4x of these, plus a foil one. I shudder to think what that will cost, though. This set is going to be fucking BRUTAL on my wallet. Luckily Doub Seas is the one thing I do not need - got in on the ground floor of those, thank Christ.

Still, WotC seems to be killing it with this set. Good reprints, good new cards, good "new card that is a very obvious throwback to a Reserve List card" cards!

That's not how magic works. You can't equate cards and situations linearly like that!
