Since we don't seem to have a thread for this already, I figured I'd start one, considering I've just seen what is likely going to be my new Commander for the oldest Commander deck I play with (and one of only two that I actually have built):

So I guess Bolas was unique among the original five for having a spark...

That ability is pretty nuts. Making the owner sacrifice the target is the hotness

A new set of the 5 Dominaria elders?! Awesome :D. Really hope the Arcades is a buttfight general like Doran or Trostani this time. Even just something that synergizes with Treyva, the Renewer would be nice to enhance Treyva decks- or give us a non-sucky Bant commander not named Phelddagrif (I know Roon, Rafiq, Angus, Jenara, and Derevi are out there- but they're super obvious and tend to be "my first antisocial play deck" :( )

Not as interesting by my lights as Vaevictis. But we still have Arcades and Chromium to look forward to.

Why exactly is Scapeshift a mythic? IIRC it's kinda bad outside of formats that have a way to abuse it like Valakut. I also don't think it's exactly a draft breaker either.

Compared to Vivectus, Palladia-Mors is hugely disappointing

Someone on MTGSalvation mentioned that Mythic is an ideal place to put rares that are unable to have much effect in Limited. Makes it more likely you’ll get something that IS germane.

The buy-a-box promo has caused a stir in certain circles.

https://magic.wizards.com/en/articles/a ... 2018-06-11

The concern is that it will have limited availability (promo only) and people will have to chase it for their Standard decks if it turns out to be good enough for that format.

It definitely looks like a Trap for Commander. Cool and fun in theory. Probably not so much in reality.

We can definitely do as good or better in Commander already. Beacon of Tomorrows and Timestream Navigator and Sage of Hours are some of the replayable options. If you're willing to spend the (probably) $10+ to get Nexus of Fate, you can also get Time Warp or Walk the Aeons for CMC 5/6 for $10 and $5 respectively. But since 2-3 mana isn't a pressure and you're already at 7+ mana, you can also do better with Part the Waterveil to get a 6/6, or take two extra turns with Time Stretch, or cast everyone's favourite blue card Expropriate for at least one extra turn plus peoples' best things.

If this bombs standard I hope it bombs it hard enough they cancel the idea of buy-a-box promos.
