One card that I quite like but have never really ended up putting into deck is Oath of Druids. I think it's either a huge control card (basically doing your best to always skew the oaths in your favour) or a group hug card and I've not built those decks in quite a while.

I'd like to make a deck around Oath so I'm coming to you guys for suggestions. This is what I have for the moment.

Original plan:
General: None yet. The deck will be theme driven. If I can find a general in our chosen colours that's thematic or helpful, that's a bonus. I'd prefer one that's not an automatic target..

Theme: I want everyone to oath often so anything that causes retriggers is good. Paradox Haze will give player X two shots, that seems good.
Portcullis will keep the number of creatures on the battlefield to 2 ensuring triggers for the remaining players, even if those creatures go under the Portcullis for a while. ETB trigger creatures are obviously good for this.

I want no small creatures in the deck that can't autosacrifice or I want a lot of sacrifice redundancy. I want to be able to control the triggers if necessary.
I'm thinking of Man-lands, sweepers, planeswalkers & tutor pieces to round out the non-creature suite and a small bunch of very scary monsters at the top of the curve.

And that's as far as I got with that part of the deck. That leaves us in UGx, probably W, maybe B (though I'd really prefer to avoid another BUG build).

This may be a lot more controlling a build than I'd prefer to play. What I'm looking for is a cascade of "top/random creature of your deck into play" effects, for me & opponents. Maybe even "Mess with top of library" effects. Bamboozle anyone? I don't really want a clash or parley deck but if something fits the "Oath of Druids" theme, by all means.

Then I thought of all the Polymorph effects: Jalira, Mass Polymorph, Proteus Staff, Chaos Warp, Indomitable Creativity, Telemin Performance (not Warp World due to house ban)

Now, we're pretty heavily in UGR which could give us 5c, Yidris, Kynaios and Tiro of Meletis or any of the RUG legends.

Any ideas to add to the pot?

And this is where I am now.
I started playing GW simply because it was the fastest pile of cards I could put together initially. After playing it a couple of times, I decided that I'd concentrate on that colour pair as I was enjoying playing it, with a view to branching out later into a 3rd or 4th colour.

I also had the idea that I would have Void Winnower, Gaddock Teeg & Brisela in play at the same time and built the deck with Gaddock's restrictions in mind. I've since changed to Sissay because Teeg is a d**k and I needed my general to do more. Sissay was initially a place-holder but I think she's goign to stick about for a while.

Here's what I'm running:

copy enchantment and clever impersonator seem like extra oaths, although i don't know if copies might fizzle somehow, i don't think so

Things to consider:

Effects to give tokens (like Varchild's War-riders, Hunted Troll)

Ways to give yourself hexproof (like Imperial Mask - if they can't target you, they can't trigger off of how many creatures you have)

Flicker effects (like Parallax Wave) to temporarily reduce creature counts)

I would probably go Bant or Naya (depending on leaning toward midrange aggro or control) if I were building this. Gives a good excuse for things like Wheel of Sun and Moon, Dimensional Breach, Teferi's Veil, Astral Slide, Varchild's War Riders, etc.

If you're full on the 'top of the deck' game, Intet is a pretty solid general choice. It puts you in the colors for Magus of the Future/Future Sight, Oracle of Mul Daya/Mina and Denn, and Mirri's Guile/Sylvan Library.

You could go a little further into the chaos bent and include Confusion in the Ranks. Having it and Oath out seems like it would create 'interesting' game states.

The additional triggers will stack but the ability will be countered on resolution if it’s no longer true at that time. So target an opponent with multiple extra creatures than you or opponents with 1 & 2 more creatures than you respectively.

So unless I want to Oath up a particularly scary “CITB with tokens” creature, best to avoid those.

Good calls, added to the list.

I kind of want other players to trigger, even off me. I may include something like Aether Flash to reduce the weenie count but the deck is predicated on people being able to or forced to Oath. Not a great pairing with Peacekeeper though....

This is a good call. I’ll want this.

I hadn’t thought of Astral Slide, is this a slide deck? Must think on it.
Naya cuts out Blue, Bant cuts out Red. I think both those colours are going to be integral to the deck. I’m really leaning towards either 4c-not-B with T&K or partnering Kraum/Ludevic & Sidar Kondo (because I own them and I don’t have Akiri/Bruise + Kydele/Thrasios or Thana + Ishai). Also, I think having 2 creatures out of the CZ could help even up creature counts if I want to stop oathing for any reason.

All added to the list bar Confusion, also house banned. Norin & friends are really not liked here.

Spreading Plague clears out the board for more oath triggers and also makes for some tense moments (if you don't end up in not-B).

Noxious Revival is another good one for setting up an oath trigger on any player.

Dual Nature seems really silly with oath, and it helps keep the oath chain going even if people aren't playing creatures from their hands.

I had a free evening yesterday and threw together the quickest version I could, which is essentially Gaddock Teeg, Brisela & Void Winnower with lots of support.

GW is simply for speed-building reasons, I don't see myself staying in those colours but fixing the mana base in GW was faster and meant I could finish up in one evening. I will revisit it for additional colours as it's missing a lot of the fun stuff I want.

I have the feeling that the current version is a horrible build. I think that, if it works, it will be unfun for opponents. If it doesn't, it will be unfun for me. I'm going to roll with it for a few games though as I won't get to rebuild until next week at the earliest. At least it will give me an idea of what cuts I want to make and I'm very excited about oathing into Ramunap Excavator.

I'll probably end up avoiding black in eth final build but Noxious Revival & Dual Nature are both in the pile, thank you.

Decklist in OP.

Captain Sissay : I'm a bit worried that this will become linear & boring but, as yet, I haven't ended up searching for just one or another card. I've needed pretty much all my legends at one point or another so Sissay has been a good choice.

Sigarda, Host of Herons : Not in my initial list but I've an issue with sacrifice effects and I have a low creature count so each sacrifice has been pretty costly. She's a reluctant addition.

The angel theme is unintentional but fun to play. A bit boring / unoriginal maybe. Each piece is part of the overall strategy and it's progressively more difficult to win when one or another is dealt with. I thought about playing Asceticism but I don't want the deck to be the all singing, all dancing. People should have valid targets to play against, it's up to me to protect them.

Elspeth, Knight Errant: I want one planeswalker for Emrakul & the new legend rule. Elspeth V1 is about the only one that's useful that not in another deck.

Evolutionary Leap : Was Survival but creatures in hand are a rarity. Once I made the switch it was obviously this was the better fit.

Bonds of Mortality : One of our players likes playing Darksteel Forge, Avacyn V.1 is rife. This gives me an out and I like finding places for cards that don't quite make the cut in other decks.

Song of the Dryads : Mentioned elsewhere but this is amazing in a quiet way. The last game it came down the Kaalia player had it on his general and was forced to play fair for the entire game, poor guy!

Pure Conviction : A necessary lifegain & win-con addition once Teeg was switched out as general.

Dowsing Dagger: A great find. It triggers Oath by giving away 2 plants and the mana boost when it (eventually) flips is welcome with the top-heavy creature costs.

Assault Suit: Latest addition that hasn't yet worked. Theoretically I can mess with Oath triggers fizzling and give people nasty monsters to attack other players with. It's a bit dangerous and I'll probably cut it for one of my "cards to find space for"

Appeal // Authority : This is not the split card I wanted to run but the only one I have. It's a place-holder for... I forget the name... Dusk // Dawn or Prepare // Fight or both?

Nostalgic Dreams : With so much messing with my graveyard, this has been excellent.

Divine Judgement : I'd initially forgotten about this one. Not amazing but I generally have thh biggest monster on the table on resolution and I've managed to cast it both ways now.

Tooth and Nail[/ard] : The elephant. Not sure I can defend this outside of not having any means to insta-win off it and it finds me Brisela.

[card]Prismatic Strands
: It was a placeholder, then it saved my life in multiple games.

Must find space for:
Pull From Eternity : Exiling my guys is horrible for me. I need a non-creature way to get them back.
Splendid Reclamation : This may slip in for Assault Suit once I see if it's not working, but I want it to have a chance so no change yet.
Miraculous Recovery : And I just found this in a pile of cards. Seems good for a little durability in a creature light deck.

BTW I tried Dual Nature. I got destroyed by it. Maybe I wasn't leveraging it correctly. I found that players don't need encouragement to play out creatures and seem happy to let opponents Oath. Also that letting everyone Oath all the time was very dangerous. I've moved away from that idea as it will happen anyway. Now the focus is on a deck that wants to Oath into big monsters but nothing that just ends a game on resolution and that allows opponents to interact with me so we can actually play a game together and cheer when Ashling flips up Phage again.
