So does the banned list apply when I play cards as different cards through Richard Garfield?

I like that its a format that I can use Sol Ring in. A man can never have enough Sol Rings.

Does it really matter, since that card is banned as well in the format?

Is it banned? I never saw that anywhere.

Silver-bordered cards are automatically assumed to be illegal in all formats, including Vintage (which EDH follows). Being a casual format, the line is vague, and I certainly wouldn't mind seeing cards that aren't overly silly, such as AWOL. I've received groans from my playgroup when I played a Fruitcake Elemental (with no synergies).

Yeah, technically banned, but it depends on your play group.
I personally am running Free For All in my Hannah deck, and wouldn't mind getting AWOL or Remodel into a few either.

Anytime I (or the guy I lend it to) plays the deck, I always ask permission first. Some ppl really hate un-cards. And I floated the idea of using Garfield as a general (my un-deck uses Cromat actually) and it recieved a mixed reaction, so I never built it.

I've got an Azami deck that I'll sometimes sub out for Garfield. The deck plays better with Azami, though...

I used to use Goblin Bookie in my "Flip a coin deck".

<3 playing Garfield as a general. That's some good fun right there :)

B&R list still applies though.

So I can't Ans. Recall with a Brainstorm?

Right. You can Timetwister with a Fabricate, or Windfall for that matter.

I personally would have no problem playing against someone playing Richard Garfield in their deck. It would be interesting just to see how good that person is at mental magic.

You really can't play around the B&R list though, not just because of the Power 9, but because of Ante cards. If Richard Garfield isn't your general, you can start playing every single black mana card as Contract from Below. That's a recipie for disaster.

Actually tonight I lent the deck to a friend and he had out Johny and Garfield.

He played a land as an Urborg Tomb, then a doppleganger as a Time Warp. Second turn he played another land as a Coffers, then tapped it for Mox Lotus.

Then he played the Legacy Weapon...

He won that one. Nice to see the deck go off.

He asked me to put a board sweeper in the deck, I didn't want to use Barter in Blood, I wanted something that fit the feel of the deck

...so I added Caribou Range.

RG,PhD isn't your general? If he is, you can't use Legacy Weapon and can't even play Caribou Range in your deck.

Cromat's my general for my unhinged/unglued deck.
