Zahid, Djinn of the Lamp as a commander, I was super excited because I could cast it for 4 any number of times. I thought.

This looks like an activated ability not an alternate casting cost, so does this get around Commander Tax?

Not a judge, but my understanding is that this is an alternate cost and would therefore bypass the Command Tax.

Alternate costs don't negate additional costs. You still have to pay the commander tax, just the same as you still have to pay (1) to cast Force of Will with Sphere of Resistance in play.

I believe majikal is correct. With Derevi, where you aren't casting it at all, you're just putting it onto the battlefield, but with Zahid you are still casting it, you're just using an alternate casting cost. Additional costs (and cost reductions if there are any) still apply to this cost. A quick search on rulings seems to confirm that.

As already stated, it's an alternative cost. Alternative costs still have to consider additional costs (eg Sphere of Resistance on top of a Flashback cost).

Activated abilities on cards appear in the form of

Cost: Effect

So you can be fairly confident that this isn't an activated ability due to the lack of a : in the middle of the text.
