What does everyone think of K'rrik, Son of Yawgmoth so far?

I look at this card and it just screams “combo kill or do some other insane thing on turn 2 or 3”. Nit calling for a ban or anything, just looking at it like a Consecrated Sphinx or stuff like that that seems to only be able to used in a non social way.

Thoughts?

I'm honestly not particularly worried. For one, even if we assume that he's the end-all-be-all of broken cards, he's pretty bad outside of mono-black and possibly some Bx decks.

And in terms of being broken, I'm not particularly worried either. Functionally he feels to me very similar to cheater generals like original Kaalia and Jhoira, which while occasionally irritating and easy to build in an antisocial way are by no means broken. He's effectively a glorified ramp spell, providing no card advantage, removal, or board control in and of himself and being at best a B-rated win condition. He's also not one to leave much of a lasting impact if answered, and also has very little ways to protect himself.

Honestly, most of the problems I imagine him causing are ones that get pretty severely undercut by his dependency on a heavy black list. Counterspells, cheap draw, good removal that hits something other than creatures, these are all things that black does not excel at. Even looking at EDHREC, a website that tends to skew competitive, there wasn't anything I saw that particularly bothered me. Pontiff of Blight, Vilis, and Blood Celebrant are the cards that seemed far and away the scariest, and of the three the Vilis interaction is the only one that I'd even argue is anything close to unique. The Pontiff of Blight combo is not far off from the billion other aristocrat-ish effects in mono-black, and Blood Celebrant effectively just turns into a color-shifted Treasonous Ogre, and even Vilis is effectively just a better Null Profusion.

I haven't played against it yet. I find anything that makes things free/far cheaper inherently dangerous, so in that sense, I'm not thrilled about him. I'll reserve final judgment for seeing it in action, but I'm not optimistic that it will be a card I'm happy to see in the format.

that pretty much mirrors my opinion. he seems like a bonkers enabler for some other broken stuff. other thoughts? i want to get several opinions, as i dont get to play much any more

He seems more like Vilis, Broker of Blood than Griselbrand to me.

I have only seen Vilis in an EDH game once so far and the player (me) lost the very next turn due to Gray Merchant of Asphodel getting looped with Geth, Lord of the Vault.

I haven't played with/against him yet.

It seems like black has gotten a bunch of power cards in quick succession (Krrik, Vilis, Citadel of Bolas), so it might take a while to figure out how to absorb them all.

I'm not a fan of the design philosophy of K'rrik, but I haven't played against him yet in a deck built around him. He looks like he can pull off some shenanigans in theory.
