Should Fruitcake Elemental be legal in EDH?

Discuss.

Well, there's nothing about him that's inherently unfair and/or rules-bendy... however, he would be an exception to the rule that cards from silver-bordered land are not legal, and it's also a little elitist. I'd prefer for the official rule to remain "no", but I'm certainly not going to object to anyone actually playing him against me.

Don't see any reason behind banning any cards beyond the specific banned list, myself. I yearn to play Psychic Network again...

Beyond just fruitcake elemental, the question of silver-bordered cards in EDH has come up a few times. IMO (and I'm also interested in opinions from players out there), this is very much the domain of house rules, and shouldn't be allowed in more official (Pro Tour/GP) games.

There are some silver bordered cards which are quite playable and fair and others are just silly; trying to differentiate between them is difficult. If your local group wants to play a more casual environment with Gleemax, Fruitcake and Handcuffs, by all means do (and if I'm around, invite me.. sounds like fun!); but when players from different groups meet they should know exactly what to expect from the format. Some silver bordered cards make that impossible, so I'd say rule them all out.

(It's also somewhat wallet-exclusionist as Duncan mentioned... and while that's not a huge priority, it is relevant).

Gavin

I think the only silver-bordered card I've thrown into an EDH deck so far was Frankie Peanuts, and that was mostly so that I could ask people "fork or spoon?" and things like that.

I'm generally against un-cards because while wacky, many of them are easily broken.

Was Fruitcake Elemental sent to only Worlds judges, or to everyone as the holiday mailer?

My opposition to the elemental would almost entirely be based upon the fact that I'd have great difficulty in getting my hands on one. For the record I am opposed to the elemental. Until I can get one anyway.

Fruitcake Elemental was sent to all Wizards employees, Worlds judges, and Premium stores.
