Taigam is weird. What I dislike about him most, is that he's a General that wants combat, but doesn't immediately reward like
Brago, King Eternal- which mostly means that you have to connect, protect, and get value out of combat. For this reason, I think Taigam is much worse as a Stax/Control General than most alternatives, and has a very poor Brago impression as a value-oriented General with a combat ability.
With respect to this, Taigam has to be treated like
Yidris, Maelstrom Wielder as a hybrid beatdown/ spell value deck- as opposed to a
Narset Enlightened Master or
Jeleva, Scourge of Nephalia spell value deck- since you have to cast and resolve the spells to get the sweet Rebound value (while Narset and Jeleva give you the ability to cast spells easier.)
The place I would start, with this in mind...
I. Cantrips. Rebound looooves cantrips. The cheaper, the better.
Defiant Strike,
Slip Through Space,
Preordain,
Thought Scour etc.
II.
Gustcloak Savior,
Whispersilk Cloak,
Eerie Interlude or other tricks that let you protect Taigam en passant.
III.
Coastal Piracy and other "Infiltrator" cards. Since you have to perform combat for value anyways, you might as well. This was sortof what Daxos was supposed to do, but the support for him isn't quite as there as it is with Taigam and Temmet. Bonus points if you play
Jeskai Infiltrator and
Dragonlord Ojutai.
IV. Prowess... Oddly enough, Rebound works with it,
Monastery Mentor is a pet card of mine, and these sort of decks house it well.
Seeker of the Way,
Jeskai Elder and
Jeskai Sage are all fairly decent and contribute well to Infiltrator plays.
