Sheldon is super-busy this week, so he asked me to do a guest article. I thought it might be fun to let folks ask questions of one of the other members of the RC (namely, me) to get a different perspective. So, ask away and I'll do what I can to answer next week.

For those of you who don't know anything about me, I'm Toby Elliott, former L5 (now L3). When I'm not doing my day job (senior engineer at Amazon), I maintain the tournament policy documents (IPG and MTR). I've been playing continuously since Alpha, play Commander and draft a ton. I've been around for a while.

Look forward to the questions.

Do you have a stance, for want of a better term, on Iona, Shield of Emeria being legal in Commander? Sheldon recently described the Rules Committee as "not unanimous enough to ban it" in one of his recent articles. Could we get your perspective?

What is your favorite M:tG memory between Alpha and now?

What is your number-one M:tG rules change you don't (didn't) agree with or would like to see reverted (e.g. loss of mana burn)? Are there any you are happy to have, even if you didn't agree when the change went into effect (e.g. removing stack damage)?

What is the most memorable EDH play you can think of (yours or your playgroup's)?

What do you think of Brawl as a player? Ditto as an RC member?

If you could make one never-ending / open debate in the format (eg sideboards/wishes, specific cards like Library of Alexandria, more-than-10 poison, etc.) go away, which one and why?

If Sheldon is the face of the EDH RC, which body part are you?

Where are you based? How often do you meet the rest of the RC face-to-face? Does your regular playgroup have any house rules that differ from the official rules? (Mulligans, house bans/unbans, poison, commander damage, whatever?)

You redefine the program so that there are only 3 levels.

Yeah, that would do it. Shows how much attention I've paid to competitive magic over the last... ever.

Thanks for the questions! I got a lot, so I'll answer the ones I didn't get to here once the article publishes.

You can also not keep up with your requirements for judging, which are set numbers of events at certain levels and some other things.

This might be the best thing written about the format in recent memory.

Thanks for the article. I enjoyed it greatly.

You made Recurring Nightmare sad. I'm interested in your thoughts and if they align with Sheldon's.

Where to does the rules committee look for feedback? One of the main complaints that I heard back during the unset kerfuffle was that the committee seems to just use these forums and whatever feedback they hear in person, and ignore places like the EDH subreddit that have tens of thousands of active users? I feel like you guys do listen to a lot more feedback, but I think the general perception is that you guys are a bit aloof.
