I didn't do the necro, so I am justified in posting this...

Yawgmoth's Will is pretty much completely insane. It's the swingiest card ever printed, and if it resolves you typically lose. We actually banned it for our local events and such because they're played in duels. It's not as bad in multiplayer because someone is usually playing blue or some graveyard nerfing stuff.

I think it's generally cute that people think cards are more powerful in duel because they can't rely on SOMEONE ELSE playing blue.

let me ask you this: does someone win with a turn 4 yawg will??? no, the player who won with it was probably sitting with the thing in their hand the whole game just tuning and sculpting their grave to pull out a win.

just because a player's win isn't stacking creature upon creature into the in-play zone doesn't mean their win condition isn't fair. open your eyes, watch your opponents 'yard. pack grave hate. ... they make artifacts for it so you don't even need blue!

in play is not the only zone... there are others... some like to use them to win.

I'm not really a fan of Yawgmoth's Will in any way, shape, or form, so that colors my perception. However, Will was a problem in our local group in duels, and many people called for its banning, so that is what happened. While not as powerful as it is in Vintage and such due to deck construction rules, Yawgmoth's Will is still easily one of the 5 most powerful cards ever printed, so it's going to be under scrutiny. I have no problems with decks winning without attacking, believe me.

Oh, and without blue on the opposing side, Will IS more powerful, because there are a lot more blue cards that stop it than artifacts, or cards of other colors.

yawg's will is good but not too good. as more people realize they need to have some way to deal with the graveyard in every EDH deck they make it will become even less of a problem.

i agree with the recent banning of time vault. good job guys

How long do you think it will be before Magister Sphinx from Conflux is banned. "Oh? did your life just become ten?"[/i]

lemme think: hmmm .... never ? :P

I mean : it costs 7. There is a lot of cards higher in the watch list.

It reminds me the Divinity of Pride dilemna. Is it overpowered ? Is everybody playing it in Ghost council decks ? Is everybody playing Ghost council decks because Divinity of pride is just too strong ?

If tinker were allowed, it would have probably been banned.

Ok. My 2 cents. (that's my fault: tinker is banned in France)

So, it is a problem. But it's the same kind of problem as a tinkered sundering titan.

I agree with Token on that. I'll always prefer tinkering a Sundering Titan or the missing combo piece to go infinite, than putting a 5/5 flier that needs 2 more turns to kill.

If the Sphinx is shattered, sworded or naturalized, you have no more threat, and the opponent being at 10 life isn't really a problem for him unless you are playing a "beatdown-Esper", in which case I wish you good luck.

Token's comparison with Divinity of Pride is really accurate. It's basically a 8/8 flier lifelink for 5 mana and... nobody plays him.

I think this card should be banned. All I play is 1 vs 1 and the card is just way to good. Just the other day I took 27 from Sphinx when he came into play.

Of course, since EDH is multi-player oriented it's not such a big issue.

That's not ban-worthy, that's the spirit of EDH. Three-card combo involving the combat phase? Awesome.

I think Tinker was still legal at the time of that posting.
